  • Check in near Wilpattu or on the Anuradhapura edge.
  • Rest at the lodge before the first full safari day.
Overnight Stay: Wilpattu / Anuradhapura

Wilpattu

Spend the day inside Sri Lanka's largest national park, known for natural lakes and a more spacious safari atmosphere.

  • Follow Wilpattu's forest tracks and open villu lakes with an experienced local team.
  • Look for leopard, sloth bear, elephants, deer, crocodiles and birdlife.
  • Experience a park where water, forest and silence matter as much as the sightings.

  • Travel through inland towns, village landscapes and open countryside.
  • Settle near Sigiriya with access to several seasonal wildlife parks.
  • Enjoy the pool, lake views or a gentle nature walk.
Overnight Stay: Habarana / Sigiriya Edge
Day 5

Habarana

Follow current elephant movement rather than a fixed park, giving the day the best chance of a rewarding wildlife experience.

  • Visit Minneriya, Kaudulla or Hurulu Eco Park based on current elephant movement.
  • Explore grasslands, reservoir edges and forest where herds gather and move.
  • Add Sigiriya or Pidurangala only if you want a cultural break from the wildlife focus.
Overnight Stay: Habarana / Sigiriya Edge
Day 6

Gal Oya

Move beyond the better-known circuit into one of Sri Lanka's quietest and most distinctive wilderness regions.

  • Travel through rural roads, small towns and increasingly remote landscapes.
  • Settle into a lodge surrounded by forest, hills and lake country.
  • Slow down and enjoy the sense of distance from the island's busier routes.
Overnight Stay: Gal Oya
Day 7

Gal Oya

Experience a different kind of safari, moving across water between forested islands and wildlife-rich shores.

  • Cross Gal Oya's lake with a local guide and park team.
  • Look for elephants, crocodiles and birdlife along the shoreline.
  • Keep the afternoon open for a guided walk, nature views or a long rest.
Overnight Stay: Gal Oya
Day 8

Haputale

Leave the dry zone and climb into cool mountain country, where tea estates and wide southern views change the mood completely.

  • Watch forest and plains give way to tea-covered slopes.
  • Arrive in Haputale, a quieter hill-country base away from Ella's busiest streets.
  • Enjoy cool air, estate views and a slower night in the hills.
Overnight Stay: Haputale
Day 9

Haputale

Walk through Sri Lanka's highland wilderness, where cloud forest, grassland and escarpment views create a sharp contrast to the dry-zone parks.

  • Start early in Horton Plains National Park and follow the loop through montane forest and open plateau.
  • Reach World's End and Baker's Falls before returning through the highlands.
  • Add Lipton's Seat later if the weather is clear and energy allows.
Overnight Stay: Haputale
Day 10

Yala / Tissamaharama

Descend from the highlands into the lakes, scrub and open plains of Sri Lanka's south-east.

  • Travel from cool tea country into warmer dry-zone scenery.
  • Check in near Yala National Park or Tissamaharama.
  • Keep the evening easy before the next early wildlife start.
Overnight Stay: Yala / Tissamaharama
Day 11

Yala / Tissamaharama

Enter Sri Lanka's best-known leopard country at first light, when the park is cooler and wildlife is most active.

  • Explore Yala's dry forest, open tracks, waterholes and rocky outcrops by jeep.
  • Look for leopard, elephants, crocodiles, deer, buffalo and birdlife.
  • Add Bundala's quieter wetlands for lagoons and migratory birds if energy allows.
Overnight Stay: Yala / Tissamaharama
Day 12

South Coast

After the safari circuit, slow the journey beside the Indian Ocean and let the final holiday days feel lighter.

  • Travel towards Tangalle, Mirissa or Weligama depending on season and stay style.
  • Settle in with no major sightseeing planned.
  • Consider turtles, whale watching, surf or a lagoon visit where conditions suit.
Overnight Stay: South Coast
